This piece of handloom is one of the vibrant ones of the collection. The handloom is of gaudy colors like royal blue, yellow and pink. The colors tell the tales of royalty. The borders of the saree are pink and yellow with blue shades of temple motifs. Narrating the royal stories of odisha, the saree has fish and the top part of the temple woven. There is also boota work on the body. The lines on the body are of white colors making it distinct and snobbish. Made out of the vegetable dye, the colors of the sarees are extremely beautiful and regal.

Kotpad is made by the “Mrigan” community of the kotpad town of Koraput district. This exclusive piece of handloom takes nearly one month to be ready. The sarees are made by the natural dye and have the handloom is the first product to get GI tag from Odisha. This relic of Odisha is one of finest handlooms anyone can own and wear.This piece of handloom is one of the vibrant ones of the collection. Origin of Kotpad Handloom Saree :

The handloom of Kotpad is titled on the basis of the village called Kotpad in Koraput District of Odisha. These handlooms are vegetable dyed-fabrics woven by the Mirgan Community of the Kotpad village.

The speciality of these sarees lies in the fact that it has been prepared out of natural resources which are not at all toxic & harmful and hence it is beneficial for the skin. The natural dye is produced from the Aul tree grown in this area.

The motifs woven on the body and anchal (pallu) somehow reflects the culture of that area. These motifs are woven by the intricate extra weft technique.

GI Tag :

Kotpad Handlooms were the first handlooms to get a GI (geographical Indication tag) from Odisha in the year 2005.
