A New Card-Free Route for Global Payments: BlackTree GlobalPay Expands Merchant Control
MYBLACKTREE INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED has introduced BlackTree GlobalPay, a Shopify-focused international payment application designed to help merchants accept eligible overseas orders through verified bank transfers instead of card payments.

The application gives Shopify merchants an additional payment route for international customers while allowing the business to verify that funds have actually reached its configured account before releasing an order for fulfilment.
BlackTree GlobalPay has been conceived and developed by Kumar Kundan, Founder of MYBLACKTREE INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED, based on the operational challenges faced by merchants working in cross-border e-commerce.
Why International Merchants Need More Payment Choices
Visa and Mastercard have played a major role in making modern digital commerce possible. Their global networks enable customers to make payments across countries, currencies and merchant categories.
According to the Nilson Report, the six major global card brands processed approximately 363.93 billion purchase transactions during the first half of 2024. Visa accounted for around 38.66% of these transactions.
Visa has also reported approximately 4.8 billion payment credentials and acceptance at more than 150 million merchant locations. Mastercard reported processing approximately 159.4 billion transactions during 2024 and maintains acceptance across more than 150 million locations worldwide.
These figures demonstrate the extraordinary scale and usefulness of card networks. However, such market concentration can also leave merchants dependent on a limited number of network rules, acquiring banks, payment gateways and dispute-resolution processes.
It would be legally inaccurate to claim that Visa and Mastercard operate an unlawful worldwide monopoly as a settled fact. The more responsible concern is that the global card-payment ecosystem is highly concentrated, and merchants often have limited control once a card dispute or chargeback begins.
The Hidden Cost of Chargebacks for Online Sellers
Chargebacks were originally introduced as an important consumer-protection mechanism. They can help customers when a transaction is unauthorized, a merchant fails to deliver, or a genuine billing problem remains unresolved.
However, not every chargeback is caused by merchant misconduct.
In some cases, a customer may receive the ordered product and later dispute the payment. Other disputes may arise because of an unfamiliar billing descriptor, forgotten purchase, household transaction, subscription misunderstanding or deliberate first-party misuse.
For the merchant, one disputed payment can create several simultaneous losses:
- The transaction amount may be reversed.
- The delivered product may already be with the customer.
- Shipping, customs and fulfilment expenses may become unrecoverable.
- The merchant may have to pay additional dispute or administrative fees.
- A rising chargeback ratio may affect payment-gateway acceptance.
- Excessive disputes can result in monitoring, reserves or account restrictions.
Research published by Mastercard with Datos Insights forecasts approximately 286 million global chargebacks during 2026, with an estimated financial impact of around US$36.9 billion.
The research also indicates that merchants may incur an average of approximately US$82 in internal expenses and US$46 in third-party costs for each chargeback, even before counting the value of lost products or services.
This creates a serious challenge for legitimate businesses—especially merchants handling international, customized, high-value or export orders.

BlackTree GlobalPay Introduces a Merchant-Verified Alternative
BlackTree GlobalPay is not another card payment gateway.
It is a payment-instruction and order-verification application that enables eligible Shopify orders to be completed through an international bank transfer.
The customer transfers the amount to the receiving account configured by the merchant. The merchant then verifies the cleared funds before marking the Shopify order as paid and beginning fulfilment.
Because a card is not used in this transaction route, the conventional card-network chargeback process does not apply in the same manner.
However, merchants must understand that no payment system is completely risk-free. Bank recalls, fraudulent transfers, sanctions checks, AML reviews, incorrect payment details, exchange-rate movements, refund disputes and operational errors may still occur.
BlackTree GlobalPay is therefore designed to reduce dependency on card disputes and improve merchant control, not to promise the complete elimination of every financial risk.
How BlackTree GlobalPay Works
1. The customer selects International Bank Transfer
During Shopify checkout, the customer chooses “International Bank Transfer” as the payment method.
Shopify creates the order as unpaid or pending, and the customer reaches the normal order-confirmation page. This allows eligible analytics and advertising attribution to continue working.
2. A unique payment reference is created
BlackTree GlobalPay captures the eligible order and generates a unique BT payment reference.
This reference helps the merchant connect the customer’s transfer with the correct Shopify order.
3. The amount is converted into the customer’s currency
The application calculates the payable amount using the configured live exchange-rate logic and an FX-protection buffer.
The displayed amount remains valid for 24 hours, helping reduce uncertainty caused by short-term currency fluctuations.
4. Secure payment instructions are delivered
The customer receives an automatic email containing:
- The exact payable amount
- The relevant currency
- The merchant’s configured bank details
- The unique BT reference
- A secure payment-submission link
The customer completes the transfer and submits their bank transaction reference through the secure page.
5. The merchant verifies the actual receipt
A bank reference, payment screenshot or customer declaration is never treated as final proof of payment.
The merchant checks the configured receiving account and confirms that the money has actually cleared. Only after verification should the Shopify order be marked paid and released for fulfilment.
6. Unpaid orders automatically expire
If the required payment is not received within the applicable 24-hour period, the unpaid order can be automatically cancelled in Shopify.
This prevents unpaid reservations from remaining indefinitely in the merchant’s order system.
Connect Eligible International Business Accounts with Shopify
BlackTree GlobalPay enables a merchant to configure the receiving details of an eligible:
- LLC company bank account
- International business bank account
- Foreign-currency receiving account
- USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD or AED account
- Approved Skydo receiving account
The configured account must lawfully belong to or be controlled by the merchant and must be authorized to receive commercial payments in the relevant currency.
BlackTree GlobalPay does not need to take custody of the sale proceeds. The customer pays the account selected by the merchant, and the merchant retains responsibility for checking the payment.
Availability remains subject to the receiving bank or provider’s terms, applicable laws, sanctions requirements, currency support and compliance approval.
Designed for 221 Countries and Territories
BlackTree GlobalPay has been designed to support cross-border Shopify payment workflows across 221 countries and territories worldwide.
The application is particularly relevant for merchants selling to major developed markets such as:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Canada
- Australia
- Germany
- France
- Japan
- Singapore
- Switzerland
- The Netherlands
In addition to these ten highlighted markets, the application is designed for customers across 211 additional countries and territories.
Actual payment availability in any country will depend on whether the merchant has an eligible receiving account, whether the required currency is supported, and whether the transaction is permitted under applicable banking, sanctions and local regulatory requirements.
Cards and Bank Transfers Serve Different Requirements
BlackTree GlobalPay is not intended to eliminate card payments from global commerce.
Cards offer immediate authorization and a familiar checkout experience. They remain highly useful for retail customers and lower-value purchases.
Verified international bank transfers may be more suitable for:
- High-value international orders
- Export transactions
- Customized or made-to-order products
- Wholesale and B2B orders
- Transactions requiring merchant verification
- Markets where card acceptance is limited
- Orders carrying a higher chargeback exposure
The purpose of BlackTree GlobalPay is to give merchants an additional payment option so they are not forced to use the same payment route for every customer, country and order value.
