We Split A $5000 Mystery Box From Cool Kicks…
This weekend, we decided to split a $5,000 mystery box from Cool Kicks. It was a 50/50 split, meaning each of us put in $2,500. The idea is that one person could end up with sneakers worth $4,000, while the other might only get $1,000 worth. My friend Hos likes sneakers, but he also likes a good risk, so this was right up his alley. We've done this before, trading a Tesla for a $20,000 mystery box and splitting that, which was a lot of fun. You can catch that full recap on my Harrison Cars channel.
How The Mystery Box Split Works
The system for splitting the box is pretty straightforward. We number each pair of sneakers inside. Then, we use bingo balls, each with a corresponding number, to randomly select which pair goes to whom. We keep drawing until all the shoes are picked. The catch is that the value of each pair can vary wildly, so it's a gamble. You might get a $2,000 shoe, and I might get a $200 one. We'll tally up the total value at the end to see who came out on top.
Key Takeaways
- The $5,000 mystery box contained 13 pairs of sneakers.
- The split was 50/50, with each person spending $2,500.
- A random drawing using numbered bingo balls determined who got which pair.
- The goal was to see who ended up with more total value in sneakers.
The Unboxing Begins
Nick helped us out by numbering each pair as he pulled them out. We decided to do a rock-paper-scissors match to see who would get the first pick, as the person who picks first gets seven pairs, while the other gets six. Naturally, I lost the rock-paper-scissors, so Hos got the first pick. We didn't know what any of the shoes were, and Harry, my cameraman, couldn't see the boxes either, to avoid giving away what was inside.
My first pick was number two, which turned out to be a pair of Jordan 11 Cool Greys in a size 9.5, valued around $300. Then, Hos picked number four, which was an Air Jordan 3 in a size 13, estimated at around $250. We continued this process, with each pick revealing a different sneaker. Some were decent, like the Jordan 1 Patent Breds in a size 8 (around $200), and the Jordan 1 UNC Lows in a size 10 (around $162).
The Big Surprises
The excitement really ramped up when Hos pulled number 11. It was a pair of Travis Scott Air Force 1s in a grade school size 4.5Y, which sold for $1,900! That was a massive win for him. I managed to get a pair of Jordan 11s, the Jumpman Jack, in a size 8, valued at around $447. We also saw some Jordan 4s, specifically the Toro Bravo from 2013 in a size 10, worth about $550, and some Jordan 3s, the J Balvin 3s in a size 10 and a half, valued at $448.
The Final Tally
After all 13 pairs were picked, we calculated the total value based on the last sale prices on StockX. My total came out to $3,884, while Hos's total was $3,536. So, I ended up with about $350 more in value than Hos. It was a much closer split than last time, which was good. We even discussed doing a $10,000 box if this video hit 25,000 likes and 100 comments.
I also took the opportunity to give away a pair of Canary Yellow Jordan 1 Lows. To enter, you just need to subscribe to the YouTube channel, follow me on Instagram, and leave a comment on the giveaway post tagging two friends. The winner will be announced in three weeks on my Instagram story.
